The Dallas Cowboys (7-8) could have clinched a playoff spot Sunday night in Philadelphia.
They did not.
The Eagles (8-7) defeated the Cowboys 17-9, taking Dallas out of the drivers seat in the NFC East divisional race.
To make the playoffs, the Cowboys must take care of business next week vs. Washington and hope Philly loses to the New York Giants.
The madness never ends, folks.
Here’s how Twitter reacted to Sunday night’s game:
I guess we are going forget zeke play football on 3rd down
— Dez Bryant (@DezBryant) December 22, 2019
Third and short.
Take Zeke out.
Flip to rookie.
Season on the line.
Ball is out. What in the world.
— Rich Eisen (@richeisen) December 22, 2019
Dallas game plan is as bad as any team that has played the Eagles this year.
— Joe Banner (@JoeBanner13) December 22, 2019
The Cowboys play-calling on the road vs at home is one of the most perplexing things I’ve ever seen
— Jonathon Shipman (@Shippyfunsports) December 23, 2019
Cowboys need to run more play action and bootleg action like the Rams and Niners do. Dak and Zeke would thrive with that.
— Jon Gordon (@JonGordon11) December 23, 2019
I’d rather lick a dirty Timberland boot until the tree disappear then to watch another game of the cowboys coached by Garrett
— James White (@Flight8) December 23, 2019
Kai Forbath, best player on the Cowboys by a mile
— Matthew McGovern (@MatthewMcGovern) December 23, 2019
Cowboys make juuuuust enough plays to keep you watching.
— Brian Davis (@BDavisAAS) December 23, 2019
why watch the cowboys when I already have enough men in my life who disappoint me
— mallorie sullivan ✨ (@malloriesullivn) December 23, 2019
The Dallas Cowboys continue to be the same exact team that fans all around the league love watching them be.
Good enough to keep their fans interested, bad enough to embarrass themselves in big moments.
Year after year, and now decade after decade.
— Mike Leslie (@MikeLeslieWFAA) December 22, 2019
If Jason Garrett is the Cowboys coach next season, I might take a year off as a fan. What an absolute joke.
— Michael Fabiano (@Michael_Fabiano) December 22, 2019
Honestly, this might be the best long-term option for the #Cowboys.
Jason Garrett is a bad head coach and it's time to move on. Need a clean cut from this entire staff.
You can't have a coach that's this gutless. You'll never win anything.
— Marcus Mosher (@Marcus_Mosher) December 22, 2019
This is a good result. Cowboys need to lose. Need to fire the staff and get the best possible draft pick in every round. And Jerry needs a huge wake up call. Shit is broken.
— Ben Rogers (@BenRogers) December 23, 2019
I’m actually not even mad the Cowboys lost. Maybe now they’ll go get a competent HC.
— Jaron Spor (@JaronSpor) December 23, 2019
Dude named Dallas torched the Cowboys all game 😂😭😭
— Jordan Kaplan (@JKap415) December 23, 2019
I hope the Cowboys keep Garrett forever.
— Derek Schultz (@Schultz975) December 23, 2019
If you ever want to question how important coaching is in the NFL, the 2019 Dallas Cowboys are the greatest case study. Talented enough to compete for a super bowl. Won’t make the playoffs.
— Cian (@Cianaf) December 23, 2019
This baby sums up the Cowboys over the last decade. It will get huge TV ratings & Dallas will lose their biggest game of the year.
— Colin Cowherd (@ColinCowherd) December 23, 2019
Cowboys
*Didn't score a TD
*Are under .500 on season
*Fall 17-9 to EaglesFor first time in 2019, Cowboys are not atop the NFC East
— Jori Epstein (@JoriEpstein) December 23, 2019
Idea for Cowboys leadership: whatever decision you want to make, do the exact opposite. For the past 24 years all your instincts and research and decision making has led you to mediocrity. Why not mix it up?
— Marc Istook (@MarcIstook) December 23, 2019
The 7-8 Dallas Cowboys are 7-0 this season when leading at halftime and now 0-8 when trailing at halftime.
— Jonathan Jones (@jjones9) December 23, 2019
I often see the question on this app "Where would this team be without Dak?"
Does the answer to that question even matter when WITH Dak the best the Cowboys can hope for is an 8-8 season? A season in which there were no major injuries sustained on offense.
— тony (@TeeJayLew) December 23, 2019
Don’t know if the Cowboys schemed more open receivers in any game plan this year. Dak either missed them or they were dropped #DALvsPHI .
— Babe Laufenberg (@BabeLaufenberg) December 23, 2019
My 11mo old really wanted to yell “Touchdown!”, but the Dallas Cowboys denied him that opportunity. #FireGarrett
— Frank J. Fleming (@IMAO_) December 23, 2019
Cowboys fans are constantly disappointed. Moral of the story is know that every year it’s a GOAL to go to the Super Bowl. Don’t ever go into a season expecting it. Just ask this Chargers fan where it’s a goal to go 8-8 and still have a fanbase by the end of a season.
— Dusty Baker (@DustyBakerTV) December 23, 2019
Congrats to the Cowboys on a Cheez It Bowl caliber season
— Matt Brown (@MattBrownCFB) December 23, 2019
I’m not even mad. I know the Cowboys will have a new head coach next year.
— Wess Moore (@Wess_Moore) December 23, 2019
“I guess Jason Garrett has to take an Uber home!”
