Arkansas National Signing Day in Review - 247Sports

Razorback head coach Sam Pittman and his staff managed to put together a huge National Signing Day on Feb. 5, as they bumped in the 247Sports rankings from No. 118 in the country when he took over in December to No. 30 on Wednesday night.

After the early signing period, there were only nine signees from the Class of 2020 for Arkansas. The Razorbacks added 12 more signatures on Wednesday, bringing their total to 21 for the class.

Here is a look at the new Razorback signees:

SIGNEES

DT | Andy Boykin

Boykin, who is rated a 3-star by the industry-generated 247Sports Composite Ranking, hails from LeGrange (Ga.) Troup County. Ranked the No. 19 strongside defensive end in the nation and the No. 53 overall recruit from Georiga, Boykin stands at 6-3 and weighs 301 pounds. Arkansas defensive line coach Derrick LeBlanc and the Kentucky Wildcats extended a scholarship offer in the spring of 2017. LeBlanc is now the Arkansas defensive line coach under Pittman, who also had knowledge of Boykin during his time coaching the Georgia Bulldogs’ offensive line.

LB | Jacorrei Turner

Turner is another 3-star recruit out of Georgia that signed with the Hogs on Wednesday. The Atlanta Woodward product is ranked the No. 67 outside linebacker in the nation and the No. 105 overall prospect from the Peach State. Turner, 6-2, 205, who ran a 4.61-second verified forty-yard dash, played a little bit of everything at Woodward Academy, including wide receiver, tight end, nickel and outside linebacker. He is expected to stick with defense for the Razorbacks moving forward.

DT | Jaqualin McGhee

McGhee became the third and final recruit from Georgia to sign with Arkansas on Wednesday. The Fort Valley (Ga.) Peach County product is currently 6-4, 255, but Arkansas sees him as a guy who can add 30 or 40 more pounds and become a true interior defensive lineman in the Southeastern Conference. He was rated a 3-star recruit, ranked the No. 60 strongside end in the country and the No. 123 player in Georgia.

TE | Collin Sutherland

Three-star tight end Collin Sutherland was one of two prospects from the Lonestar State to pen with the Hogs on National Signing Day. The Flower Mound Marcus star is the only tight end for Arkansas’ 2020 class, and he was ranked the No. 83 tight end recruit overall and is the No. 274 ranked player from Texas. Sutherland had two older brothers attend the UA and called it his dream school.

LB | JT Towers

Towers, a 3-star backer out of Little Rock Joe T. Robinson, was the fastest to commit in this year’s class, as he only needed 3 hours to make the decision to stay home and play for the Razorbacks. The No. 72 overall inside linebacker in the class and No. 13 overall prospect from the Natural State, he posted 171 tackles, 11 tackles for loss and four sacks for the Class 4A state champions this past season. Towers, 6-4, 210, also considers Arkansas his dream school.

DE | Eric Thomas

Thomas, 6-3, 230, was another late addition for Arkansas’ class in the month of January. A 3-star weakside defensive end, he is a product of Pensacola (Fla.) Booker T. Washington High School, where he became the No. 58 ranked weakside defensive end prospect in the country and the No. 143 recruit from the Sunshine State. He racked up 60 tackles, 27 tackles for loss, 14.5 sacks and six forced fumbles as a senior.

CB | Khari Johnson

Johnson, 6-0, 184, is originally from Boston but played his senior season at Suffield Academy in Connecticut. He is rated a 3-star recruit by the industry-generated 247Sports Composite Ranking and is the No. 201 ranked cornerback in the country. In the state of Massachusets, he was ranked the No. 16 overall prospect. Johnson also added late offers from Rutgers and Georgia down the final stretch but stayed firm in the commitment that he gave Arkansas during his official visit on the weekend of Jan. 17.

LB | Levi Draper

Draper, 6-2, 222, was the only graduate transfer to sign with the Hogs on Wednesday. The Collinsville (Okla.) native signed with the Sooners as a nationally-rated prospect in the Class of 2017 and spent his first three years as a backup linebacker and contributed mostly on special teams.

S | Nick Turner

The Hogs added yet another defensive back out of New Orleans to their roster on Wednesday when Brother Martin High 3-star safety Nick Turner penned with the Razorbacks. Standing at 5-11 and weighing 177 pounds, he clocked a verified 4.48 forty-yard dash last spring. He is rated 3-star prospect, the No. 50 safety in the nation and the No. 26 overall prospect from Louisiana. Turner originally committed to Georgia Tech last June and stayed on board with the Yellowjackets until December 2.

OL | Marcus Henderson

National Signing Day ended with a splash for the Razorbacks, adding three big-time prospects, including Henderson. Henderson, 6-5, 300, is rated a 4-star by the industry-generated 247Sports Composite Ranking. The Memphis (Tenn.) University School product is ranked the No. 15 offensive guard prospect in the nation and the No. 11 overall recruit from the state of Tennessee. One of the most highly-coveted offensive linemen in this year’s class, he chose Arkansas over offers from the likes of Alabama, Auburn, Florida, Florida State, Georgia, LSU, Ohio State and many others.

OL | Jalen St. John

A product of St. Louis (Mo.) Trinity Catholic, St. John is rated a 3-star. He is also ranked the No. 32 guard in the entire nation and the No. 11 player from Missouri. The 6-4, 315-pound guard committed to play for Barry Odom and Brad Davis at Missouri on July 11, but he de-committed the day after Odom and his staff were let go in Columbia. St. John was considering the Razorbacks along with Florida State, Mississippi State, Auburn, Nebraska, Ole Miss and several others.

QB | Malik Hornsby

Hornsby, 6-3, 180, is a four-star recruit who chose the Razorbacks over Baylor, Texas A&M and Purdue, but the one-time North Carolina commits offer list also included Georgia, Alabama, Auburn, Florida State, Oregon, Texas and many others. Hornsby made his official visit in Fayetteville on the weekend of January 24. He was expected to visit Baylor on the final weekend but canceled those plans late in the week. He is ranked the No. 8 dual-threat quarterback in the nation and the No. 30 overall player in the Lonestar State.
