CBS Evening News has apologized after the network misidentified Rep. John Lewis as the late Rep. Elijah Cummings during a broadcast about Lewis's recent cancer announcement.
The network's original airing of Monday's program showed a picture of Cummings, who died in October, next to a quote from Lewis revealing his diagnosis of stage 4 pancreatic cancer.
"I am clear-eyed about the prognosis … I have a fighting chance," the Georgia Democrat said in the quote.
CBS News quickly issued an apology over the mistake.
"Tonight on the 6:30 p.m. ET broadcast of the CBS Evening News, one photograph was misidentified as Congressman John Lewis. We have replaced the photo in all broadcasts and platforms. We deeply regret the error," CBS Evening News said on Twitter.

This is not the first time the two lawmakers have been part of a mix-up by one of the major cable news networks. Fox News was forced to apologize in June after the network's show America's Newsroom mislabeled Lewis as Cummings in a clip.
Lewis, 79, announced his diagnosis on Sunday, saying, "I have been in some kind of fight — for freedom, equality, basic human rights — for nearly my entire life. I have never faced a fight quite like the one I have now."
