FAIR PLAY, Mo. -- The National Weather Service confirmed a small tornado in Polk County, Mo. from Saturday night's storms.

An assessment team rated the twister as an EF-0. It hit around 7:05 p.m. near Fair Play. The storm packed winds of nearly 80 miles-per-hour. It stayed on the ground for about one-and-a-half miles.
"We can get tornados any month of the year," said National Weather Service Meteorologist Steve Lindenberg.
He said the tornado near Fair Play this weekend was not necessarily a surprise. What was rare, he said, was that there was no thunder or lightning in the storm.
"When you have low instability like we did, just enough for the strong sheer that we had, to produce some stronger showers, not enough for lightning," Lindenberg said.
That EF-0 tornado near Fair Play completely leveled a barn near Highway 123 and then carried the debris down the hill.
The nearly 80-mile-an-hour winds uprooted a tree, snapped branches and came dangerously close to a mobile home. The homeowner said he could feel the wind blowing around the house while he was taking cover inside.
Down the road, a neighbor's shed was also destroyed.
Weather experts say the Ozarks are more prone to severe weather than other parts of the country, and the latest technology allows weather casters to give out warnings days in advance.
"Just be aware of your surroundings and what kind of weather you're expecting for that day because we do have strong to severe weather at any time in the area," Lindenberg said.
Even in December, he said, be prepared.
Have an emergency plan, pack a safety kit and download the KY3 Weather App so you're ready, once the sirens sound.
The National Weather Service said it might have crews out looking for more damage tomorrow.
