The Youngstown State men's and women's track and field teams had outstanding performances on the final day of competition at the YSU National Mid-Major Invitational and Penn State National Open.
The Penguins picked up five wins at the WATTS and junior Sean Peterson won the one mile run at the Horace Ashenfelter III Indoor Track in State College, Pa.
Penn State National Open
Peterson went from last to first in the final lap of the one mile race to win the event after finishing in 4:05.19. Peterson's time is the second fastest in school history and headed into the weekend would have been the 36th fastest time in the nation.
Nicole Squatrito finished second in the one mile run after running a personal-best time of 4:56.65. Squatrito, who owns the second fastest one mile time in school history, dropped 1.41 seconds off her previous time.
YSU National Mid-Major Invitational
Natalie Fleming kicked off the day for the Penguins at the WATTS with a first place in the one mile run after finishing in a personal-best time of 5:05.90. On the men's side, Cameron Binda also ran a personal-best time of 4:28.25 on his way to a 12th place finish.
Teneisha Myers won the 400m dash after running the fastest time in Heat 14 at 57.14 seconds. In his first race for the Penguins this season, junior Pierlus Stewart took fourth in the 400m after finishing in 50 seconds flat. Glen Knowles finished 10th after running the fastest time in Heat 13 at 50.58 seconds.
Jett Murphy took third in the pole vault after clearing the bar at a personal-best height of 4.75m. Freshman Blaine Brokschmidt also had a career day in the pole vault clearing the bar at a personal-best height of 4.60m to earn a sixth place finish.
In the 60m hurdles, Seraiah Abram finished sixth after running a personal-best time of 8.47 seconds and Myron Anderson was ninth after clocking a time of 8.57 seconds.
Charlotte Crouch was the highest finisher for the Penguins in the 800m running coming in seventh place after running a personal-best time of 2:21.98. On men's side, Ethan Sparks finished 11th after clocking a time of 1:58.72.
The Penguins return to action next Friday, February 7, when they travel east to compete in the Akron Invitational at the Stile Field House.
