A motorcycle crash late Wednesday night near the San Diego Bay in National City reportedly left one person dead and more than 2,100 customers in the area without power.

The crash happened about 10 p.m. on Harbor Drive between West Eighth Street and Civic Center Drive, a National City police dispatcher said.

Police asked motorists to avoid that stretch of Harbor Drive, which was expected to be shut down for an “undetermined duration.”

More than 2,180 San Diego Gas & Electric customers were without power in that area late Wednesday, according to an SDG&E outage map. NBC7 reported the crash left power lines draped over the motorcycle where it came to rest next to train tracks.

According to SDG&E, power was expected to be restored around 2 a.m. Thursday.
