Zion National Park's Angels Landing trail will likely remain closed until Friday, park officials say - Salt Lake Tribune

Officials at Zion National Park closed the Angels Landing trail after a rockslide Saturday, and according to a news release issued Sunday, the trail probably won’t be open again until Friday.

Park staff learned of the rockslide, which occurred on a steep section of the trail where chains are adhered to the rocks for hand holds, Saturday afternoon, according to a news release. A rock about the size of a refrigerator, as well as several other smaller rocks, are obstructing a very narrow section of the trail, officials say. Several of the rocks are unstable, and the trail will remain closed until the rocks can be broken up and removed, a news release states.

No one was hurt or trapped in the slide.

The West Rim trail is open, park officials tweeted Sunday. But the Angels Landing trail is closed beyond the Scouts Lookout waypoint.
